Signature Wood-Clad Tilt & Turn Narrow 103

The narrow-frame version of our wood-clad tilt & turn: a sash that sits flush to the exterior and a shallower jamb, which makes it a straightforward choice for frame-in-frame replacement where the existing opening cannot grow. Taller units are available than on the standard frame, so you keep glass area without widening the rough opening.

Configure your unit, then request a quote — we price it and reply, usually within one business day.

Overview

The narrow-frame wood-clad tilt & turn, on a 103.2 mm section — 4 1/16", which is where the model number comes from. The sash sits flush with the exterior rather than recessed, and the faces seen from inside are the thinnest in the wood range: 1 1/8" of frame and 2 3/16" of sash. Leaves run to 48" wide and 84" high, up to 2 m² (21.5 sq ft) at the same 330.7 lb as the standard frame, so it reaches a foot higher than the E80 without a heavier leaf.

That flush exterior sash and the narrow jamb are the whole reason to choose it: it is the wood unit intended for frame-in-frame replacement, where the existing opening cannot grow, and for contemporary new construction where the elevation should read as glass rather than joinery. The E80 has a recessed sash and the traditional read, and is the one for new build or full-frame replacement; the Casement (163) is the crank unit on the deepest section. Where the E80 gives up glass area to a wider frame face, this one keeps it — which matters most when you are replacing into a fixed rough opening.

Construction is the same system on a heavier timber: a 1 7/8" × 3 3/8" wood frame profile against the E80's 1 11/16" × 2 7/16", with extruded aluminium exterior cladding at a minimum 1.6 mm (1/16") wall and seamlessly welded exterior corners. The interior face is factory-finished joinery — cherry or white oak, seven stains and three paints — and the cladding is available in nineteen colours including three pearlescent finishes, with custom matching on request.

The gear is Maco multi-point locking with a Hoppe lever, and the narrow frame carries its own handle range rather than sharing the standard tilt & turn's, drawn from FSB and Sobinco. Glazing is dual pane with low-e and argon on an EPDM spacer, with triple pane where the glazing thickness can exceed 3/4"; screens are available fixed removable, retractable or as a casement frame. Divided lites can be simulated bars on both faces or grilles between the glass, and replacement mounting can be a no-flange drill-through frame or galvanised metal straps that let the unit sit anywhere within the wall cavity.

Mounting and frame options

The frame type decides the rough-opening detail, the flashing and how much of the existing wall has to come out. Four are available; tell us the wall build-up and we will specify which one your opening needs.

New construction
Installation flange, 1/2" (1 3/8" optional)

The standard new-construction frame. The flange laps the sheathing so the unit sets and seals in one operation.

A 1 3/8" flange is available where the cladding build-up needs the extra reach.

Flush fin frame — for stucco

Installs over an existing aluminum window frame, so the stucco exterior is left intact. No cutting back and repatching.

Available on selected window types — ask us which of your openings can take it before you price the stucco work.

Replacement
No-flange frame (drill-through)

For full removal, when the existing frame is rotten or damaged and has to come out entirely.

Sets into the existing rough opening, and arrives with the through-the-jamb holes pre-drilled and the screws supplied.

Galvanized metal straps

Straps fix to the frame, which lets the unit sit anywhere in the depth of the wall cavity rather than at a fixed setback.

Installs from the interior, and works for both new construction and replacement.

Full CAD details for any of these are available on request for your wall assembly.

Factory-joined combinations for large openings

Multi-unit combinations are joined in the factory and delivered as one assembly, so the joint is made under shop conditions instead of on a scaffold. The joining mullion is 1 1/8" (28 mm) wide and comes in three reinforcement grades, chosen by the height of the window it has to carry. The system is covered by a US patent.

Suggested window heightJoint width
up to 9 ft1 1/8" (28 mm)
9 to 11 ft1 1/8" (28 mm)
11 to 13 ft1 1/8" (28 mm)

Combinations arrive partly or fully assembled depending on size and shipping method. Tell us the opening and we will confirm which grade your height needs and how the unit will be split for transport, before you price the crane time.

Performance & Certifications

NFRC certified performance

Certified figures from the NFRC Certified Products Directory — the source a U.S. building department will check. This window is certified separately as a fixed lite and as an operable lite, so both are shown: the operable sash carries the hardware and the operating joint, which costs a little thermal performance.

Bay and bow assemblies

Both are built from the units on this page rather than being separate products, so the finish, glazing and hardware you specify here carry straight through into the assembly.

Bay3 to 6 units

Units set at an angle to project out from the wall, which turns a flat elevation into a seat, a deeper sill or a reading corner. Built from 3 to 6 casement or tilt-turn units, each of which can be fixed or operating — so you can put opening lights only where you need ventilation.

Bow4 or more units

Four or more units connected in a gentle outward curve rather than faceted angles. Reads softer than a bay and pulls light in from a wider arc. Available with casement, tilt-turn or picture windows.

Size and performance figures on this page are for the individual units. The structural limits of a specific assembly — how wide, how many lights, what header is needed above it — are confirmed by the factory against your opening, and we get that in writing before it is quoted.

Exterior finish

The exterior is extruded aluminum cladding, which is why the finish schedule matters more here than the colour chart on a vinyl window: it is a powder coat on structural extrusion, not a surface tint.

Interior wood and finish

Finishes are applied in the factory, not on site. That removes a trade from your programme and a variable from the result — site finishing depends on the weather and whoever is holding the brush.

Exposed millwork is treated with a water-repellent wood preservative before finishing.
